1.Write a complete bibliographic entry for the photograph you have selected.
Photographer: Evans, Walker, 1903-1945
Published: 1935 Dec.
Location: Main Street. Selma, Alabama.

2.What is the setting of the photograph?
This photograph is of the outside on the main street of Selma, Alabama. It seems like is day time, for people are walking the streets, and the lighting seems to be lighter then if if was night time. It also seems to be in a rather Urban place, since its a clothing shop, and people are making their way around, along with the stands along the side.

3.Describe what you see in the photograph. Include specific details.
In this photograph there seems to be around ten people, of an older decent. You can't really see the people's faces, or emotions to clearly, but the main focus is the sign that lays over head, reading; Fixings for Men, which is said to be a clothing shop. Also in this picture there are newspaper stands, and other shops along the street, selling goods, as well as many cars parked along the side, and that’s what catches my eye when I first look at it. I think the reason it catches my eye is for the fact that it looks a bit like the streets of New York City, just with a bit less of people walking around.

4.What structures are in the photograph?
This picture looks as if it was in a rather good part of Alabama. Its a business plaza, its seems, filled with many stores. Along with the stores, comes the active shoppers, which leads me to think of the place having good standing, and finances seem to be strong.

5.What is the tone of the photograph?
To me, this photo seems light and positive. There isn't anything depressing in this picture.

6. Write a paragraph explaining your response to this question. Use specifics from your responses to the other questions to support your answer.
This picture if anything is the most positive of all of my choices. It seems like an average day for that time. People leaving to go to work, shops open for business, if I didn't know any better, I wouldn't even guess they were in the Great Depression or going into war. They seem fine with walking the streets, and easy going with their surroundings, which is why to me this is a light, positive living place, for business and homes.

7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s)
My questions would be:
Why was this shop chosen, why not the one next to it?
Is this street the main attraction in the small town?

Photographer: Lange, Dorothea
Published: 1936, July.
Location: Alabama black tenant farmer and part of his family.[Eutaw, Alabama]

2.What is the setting of the photograph?
This photograph is of the outside on a farm in Eutaw Alabama. It seems to be around mid afternoon, because not many people can farm in the dark. Given that it's a farm I'd have to say the location seems more rural, because from looking at the picture there doesn't seem to be many things around.

3.Describe what you see in the photograph. Include specific details?
In this photograph there are two people, one male and the other female. You can't really see the people's faces, because they are so set on their work of the land. You see the many rows of planting that had been done, as well as continuing on for miles.

4.What structures are in the photograph?
This picture looks as if it was in a farming town of Alabama. Unlike the other photo there seems to have a lot less activity, and nothing to do, but work. It looks as if the place is the two farmers home in which they farm to place food on the table.

5.What is the tone of the photograph?
To me, this photo looks light, but it seems to be in the middle of positive and negative. There is much to base anything on, except the condition on how the two are working, and it looks as if they have to do it, they don't choose to do it.

6. Write a paragraph explaining your response to this question. Use specifics from your responses to the other questions to support your answer.
Positive are hard to distinguish in this picture. There faces are down, which leads me to think that maybe they are so into their work that they enjoy it. But then you have to think, this is the Great Depression, and people work hard for the money that never seems to be brought in. So it's hard for me to decide the background for this photo.

7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s)
My questions would be:
If these two people could do something else for a living would they?
Is there anyone else that helps them out in the field?

Photographer: Delano, Jack
Published: 1941 May.
Location: African American tenant family near Greensboro, Alabama.

2.What is the setting of the photograph?
The setting of this photograph is in the outdoors, maybe close to evening. This seems to be located in Alabama, in a small home with African Americans.

3.Describe what you see in the photograph. Include specific details?
In this photograph there are eight people. Each seem to be of different age and all African Americans. There is the youngest, which seems to be a baby, three other young children, what seems to be two teenagers, and then two women. The clothing looks dirty, torn and old, as if they had been wearing it for weeks. The thing that catches my eye first would be what they are all staring at. You can see from where the photo is being taken, but it looks like they are waiting for something.

4.What structures are in the photograph?
This photo is the home of all the people in the picture. It looks to small to fit each on, and it also looks a bit secluded. There is also a farm in the back, which to me means, they must farm as a living. The conditions, aside from being small also seem like it is on the brink of falling down.

5.What is the tone of the photograph?
To me, this photo looks light, but also looks negative. The faces of the people are more of cold hard stares at whatever's coming. They seem unsure, and look as if nothing's going to improve, which also makes them look unhappy. So when I look at this picture I feel a bit upset of the conditions they are living in, and only wish to help them.

6. Write a paragraph explaining your response to this question. Use specifics from your responses to the other questions to support your answer.
The tone is something that’s more of what the photographer wants you to feel when looking at their art. To me it captured my attention. It seems like this family is helpless, and has negative expressions on their faces, which is one reason I feel the shot is a bit depressing. Aside from that, the conditions in which they live under add to their depression. This was a time when money was hard to make, and for them it was no different, so when looking at this and their background, it seems they are trying to improve, but are struggling.

7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s)
My Questions would be:
Why did you chose to photograph this family?
What are they staring at; is something coming in the distance?
